About Us

Our Story

Every calf on the range wore a brand.
Except one.

Jack Maverick's makes plain, hard-wearing clothes for men and women who buy things once and keep them — named for the only animal on the open range that answered to nobody.

mav·er·ick

noun · American English, 1867

1. An unbranded calf on the open range; after Samuel Maverick, the Texas rancher who refused to brand his cattle.
2. One who will not run with the herd.

★ The only word we ever needed

The man the clothes are cut for

Jack Maverick isn't a founder in a frame on our wall — he's a standard. He fixes the fence before breakfast and doesn't mention it. He owns one good jacket, not eleven bad ones, and he's had it long enough that it fits like a habit. He judges a thing by whether it works, keeps his word without ceremony, and has never once checked what anyone else was wearing.

Most of us don't live his life. We live in towns, we drive to jobs, the nearest cattle are a county away. But most of us recognise the standard — and the standard doesn't care where you live. That's what we put his name on. Every piece in the range gets held up against one question before it earns a place: would it survive Jack? It rules out most of what fashion produces in a season. Good. What's left is worth selling.

What We Build From

The short list

Four materials survived the question. The whole range is cut from them, in colours the country picked first — sage, dust, pine, iron, oxblood.

Canvas & waxed cotton

The outer layer. Shrugs off wind, rain and barbed wire, and looks better at year five than day one.

Brushed flannel

With real weight to it — the kind you feel when you pick the shirt up, not the tissue that passes for flannel now.

Denim

Meant to be worn in, not worn out. Cut so you can raise your arms, load a truck, or sit through a long dinner.

Heavy knits

That hold their shape for years — because a sweater that bags at the elbows by spring was never cheap, whatever it cost.

Open country under a wide dusk sky

Nothing tight for the sake of a photograph.
Nothing baggy for the sake of a trend.

How We Run It

Small on purpose.

Jack Maverick's is a small, independent, family-run outfit — and we intend to keep it that way. There's no floor of agents reading from a script. When you email us, a person who actually works here reads it and answers it, usually within the day.

Being small is not a limitation we're apologising for. It's the reason the range stays short, the standard stays high, and nobody here has ever had to sell you something we wouldn't wear ourselves.

Our Word On It

We'd sooner lose a sale than an ounce of trust.

Every order ships tracked, door to door. If a piece isn't right, you've got 60 days to send it back — unworn, no interrogation, full refund.

If it arrives wrong or damaged, that's on us, and we'll make it right with a replacement or your money back. Whichever you'd rather.

The Rule

Buy it once. Buy it plain. Wear it hard. Keep it for years.

If that's how you buy, you'll feel at home here. The range is short — that's the point.
